Spring Wedding in Denmark

Spring is a magical season in Denmark. After the cold and darkness of winter, the arrival of spring brings with it a sense of renewal and optimism – a perfect mood for starting a new chapter in life together. The trees burst into a vibrant light green, cherry blossoms bloom in parks and gardens, and longer daylight hours allow more time for exploring, celebrating, and capturing unforgettable wedding photos.

If you’re planning a wedding abroad and looking for somewhere charming, romantic, and a little bit different, a spring wedding in Denmark could be exactly what you need.

Why choose spring?

As the Danes say, when spring arrives, everything pops. The tulips, the cherry trees, the forests – and even the people. After winter’s quiet, the streets suddenly fill with life. Couples meet for coffee on sunny street corners, boats appear along the canals, and there’s a cheerful, relaxed energy in the air.

This uplifting mood makes spring one of the best times to visit Denmark – and an ideal time to get married here. The temperatures are mild, the days are lighter, and the natural backdrops are stunning. Whether you’re planning a small, private ceremony or a larger celebration, you’ll find Denmark especially welcoming during these months.

A spring wedding with a side of tradition

If your wedding falls around Easter – known in Denmark as Påske – you’ll be treated to some unique local traditions that make the season even more special.

Decorations and celebrations

Much like Christmas, Danes love to decorate their homes for Easter. You’ll see pastel-coloured eggs, daffodils, bunnies, and quirky ornaments hanging from branches indoors. It’s all about welcoming spring and enjoying simple pleasures with friends and family.

Easter lunches

You might consider planning your wedding meal in the style of a Påskefrokost, a Danish Easter lunch. These leisurely affairs typically stretch over hours and feature traditional open sandwiches made with rye bread and topped with eggs, herring, meats, and cheeses. Lamb is another seasonal favourite. And of course, no Easter lunch is complete without a glass (or two) of snaps and a cheerful skål (cheers!).

The gækkebrev tradition

One of the more charming Danish customs is the gækkebrev – a playful letter made by cutting paper into decorative shapes and adding a poem. The sender signs it with a series of dots (one for each letter of their name). If the recipient guesses who it’s from, the sender owes them a chocolate egg. If they can’t, the egg is theirs! It’s a sweet, light-hearted tradition that adds a little fun to the season.

A season of joy, perfect for “I do”

With its soft colours, milder weather, and joyful spring spirit, Denmark offers an ideal setting for a meaningful, memorable wedding. At Marry Abroad Simply, we make the legal side easy, so you can focus on celebrating your love in a country that’s as relaxed and romantic as your special day should be.
