There are some documents that all couples will need for the ceremony
Valid ID
For all couples that marry in Denmark they MUST have a valid ID document, this being either an EU ID card or a passport, both of these need to have at least 3 months validity on them from the date of the ceremony.
Legal Entrance
They will also need to have legal entrance into Denmark;
- EU citizenship
- EU residence permit
- Schengen short stay visa (work, student)
- Schengen visit visa
Be a citizen of a visa-free Schengen travel country. For the full list see here. Please bear in mind that you mustn’t overstay on your 90 days visa free, it may cause some problems if you have.
Relationship Document
This is something that we make ourselves and upload to the Danish government office when we make the application for your marriage.
The point of this document is to show the longevity of the relationship and we will let you know below how this can be done.
After these documents then it depends on every applicants individual specific situation.
IF YOU ARE SINGLE NEVER HAVING BEEN MARRIED AND NEVER HAVING ENTERED INTO A CIVIL PARTNERSHIP
Just the above
If you are a widow/widower/surviving partner
Death Certificate of the deceased if the certificate was issued in the USA, Canada, Australia, or an EU member country, it is all ready to use as it is. If it was issued anywhere else then it will need extra legalisation this is the process of verifying that an important document is legal and authentic. This can be done by an Apostille Stamp or a three tier stamp which is the Ministry of Justice/High Court, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Danish Embassy in the country of issue.
If you have been previously married or who have previously entered into a civil partnership
Full and final divorce decree if the certificate was issued in the USA, Canada, Australia, or an EU member country, it is all ready to use as it is.
If you have children together
You will need to provide their birth certificate with both of your names on.
Change of name
If you have changed your name in any way, you must produce official evidence of your change of name.
Residence documentation
If you are a couple that are registered at the same address then you have to prove this, this can be a registration document from your local authorities or utility bills, we can also submit one for each of you if you don’t have both details on one document.
Other documentation
In addition to the above, the Agency of Family Law may, at his sole discretion, ask for any other documents considered necessary.
Of course couples are drawn to Denmark because of its easier documents lists and to some this list may seem exhausting, get in touch, we are here to help and once we know your exact situation we can make everything clear for you..
