Documents required for a wedding in Denmark
To ensure your wedding application is processed quickly and without delays, all applicants must provide the following as applicable:
- Valid passports or EU ID cards – with at least three months’ validity from the wedding date.
- Residence permit – if you live outside your country of citizenship.
- Valid Schengen visa – if you are from a country that does not have visa-free entry to the Schengen Zone. The visa must be valid for your wedding date.
- If married before – if divorced or widowed, you’ll need the original full and final divorce decree or death certificate. This document must be legalised according to the Hague Convention.
- Proof of genuine relationship – we will help you prepare this simple “relationship document.” It includes photos, screenshots, and communication records that show contact and longevity of your relationship.
- Shared children or cohabitation evidence – if applicable, this can help speed up the approval of your file.

General information about getting married in Denmark
Since the laws changed in January 2019, all Danish wedding applications now have to go through the Danish Agency of Family Law Office, or the Familieretshuset, via an electronic file and application – which we do for you with the Everything service.
For all marriage ceremonies in Denmark you leave straight away with 2 copies of your International Marriage Certificate – which is in Danish, German, French, Spanish & English (we can also request extra copies at no extra cost if you require them!).
